Baca Gitu Loh - Java - The joy of Christmas celebrations was also felt by 358 Christian prisoners in East Java. The reason is, even though they are behind bars, they receive conditional rights in the form of special remissions. .
In fact, three of them were immediately declared free. "The number of proposals for special remission for Christmas 2023 automatically through the Correctional Database System is 449 people, the decree that has been issued temporarily is 358 people," said Head of Regional Office of the East Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights Heni Yuwono.
Heni said that the handover of the Decree from the Director General of Corrections was carried out symbolically at Sidoarjo Prison today (25/12/2023). Head of Corrections Division of the Regional Office of the East Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Asep Sutandar, handed over the decree symbolically to two prisoner representatives. "There are 16 people who are still in process for remission decrees, while there are 61 people who have not met the requirements," explained Asep, in an official release from the East Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Wednesday (27/12/2023).
The special conditions have not been fulfilled because the proposed prisoners have never received general remission. "There are also those who are hampered by being included in the list of disciplinary violations while attending coaching," explained Asep.
Not only that, every prisoner must also be able to show assessment results that show a reduction in risk levels. Also not currently serving confinement/prison as a substitute for a fine/replacement money/restitution.
"So all requirements must be met, so that remission is not interpreted as a sale of punishment, but there is a measurable coaching process that applies fair rewards and punishments," stressed Asep.
The amount of remission that prisoners get varies. The lowest is 15 days and the maximum is 2 months. "A total of 130 people are special criminal convicts, dominated by drug abuse cases with 118 people," explained Asep.
Christmas remission is an opportunity for prisoners to celebrate togetherness and new hope. Not just for leniency, but also as a form of concern for social rehabilitation and restoration. ***
