Baca Gitu Loh - Java - President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Pakupatan Type A Terminal located in Serang City, Banten Province, on Monday, January 8 2024.

The President appreciated the cooperation between the Ministry of Transportation and the local government so that the construction of the terminal could be carried out well.

"I really appreciate the Ministry of Transportation for collaborating with the Regional Government, provincial government and city government so that the Pakupatan Terminal can be built," said the President.

The President also hopes that the terminal building, which is inspired by one of Banten's batik motifs, namely the Pawaranggen motif, can change the image of the terminal for the better. The president does not want the terminal to have the image of being unsafe and full of thugs.

"The terminal is a comfortable place, the service is good, and it also encourages small businesses and medium businesses to be able to trade their products at the terminal we have," said the President in his speech.

On this occasion, the President also explained that currently traffic jams have occurred in almost all cities, especially on the island of Java. This happens because almost everyone who has financial power chooses to use private vehicles.

"Those who bought cars, those who bought motorbikes, all used private vehicles and abandoned public transportation, abandoned mass transportation," said the President.

Therefore, the government has begun to encourage the use of mass transportation again by building various integrated public transportation. In Jakarta, for example, the government is building Integrated Highways (MRT), Integrated Rail Traffic (LRT), and high-speed trains that are integrated with several surrounding supporting cities.

"All cities should also start thinking in that direction, using mass transportation, using public transportation," said the President.

The President also hopes that the presence of the Pakupatan Terminal, which can accommodate up to 400 buses every day, will increase public interest in using mass transportation.

"If in the future with this very beautiful and very modern terminal the number of buses will increase, the number of passengers will increase, it will show that the movement of people to use public transportation, mass transportation will increase, that is what we hope for," said the President.

Also accompanying the President at the inauguration were Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan, Acting. Governor of Banten Al Muktabar, and Acting. Mayor of Serang Yedi Rahmat.
