Baca Gitu Loh - Java - Banyuwangi Airport Will Soon Serve Umrah Flights. PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) or AP II is working to increase Umrah flights at Banyuwangi Airport to make it easier for people in the eastern region of Java Island.

The Banyuwangi Regency Government together with AP II held a meeting to finalize the departure scheme for Umrah pilgrims from Banyuwangi International Airport.

Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani is optimistic that Umrah flights from Banyuwangi Airport can be realized in 2024.

"Hopefully everything goes smoothly as expected, so that the people of Banyuwangi and the area around Banyuwangi can more easily carry out the Umrah pilgrimage," said Regent Ipuk, Sunday (14/1/2024).

To finalize the scheme, the Regency Government has held a meeting with PT Angkasa Pura II, the Banyuwangi Ministry of Religion Office, as well as representatives of the Jember and Situbondo Ministry of Religion Offices at the Banyuwangi Regency Government Office, on January 10 2024.

Also present at the meeting were a number of Umrah Travel Organizers and other stakeholders.

The Executive General Manager (EGM) of PT Angkasa Pura II Banyuwangi International Airport, Johan Seno Acton, explained that the meeting discussed, among other things, the technicalities of the congregational flight scheme.

For now, he said, the Umrah pilgrims' departure scheme cannot be carried out directly from Banyuwangi Airport, but they must transit first.

"There are three options, from Banyuwangi, transit first to Malaysia, Singapore or Thailand. This is very possible because Banyuwangi Airport already has international status. It's just a matter of agreement later," explained Johan.

He said that the Umrah pilgrims' journey from Banyuwangi Airport was planned to be served using a Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 which would later be connected to a Saudi Airlines plane to Jeddah.

"Hopefully everything goes smoothly and can be realized soon this year," concluded Johan.

Just to note, the number of Banyuwangi Umrah pilgrims will reach more than 12 thousand pilgrims throughout 2023. ***
