Minister of Defense Prabowo Meets Tens of Thousands of Farmers and Ranchers

Baca Gitu Loh - Java - Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto fulfilled the invitation of the Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman to give a briefing at the Movement to Increase National Food Production through Increasing the Role of Farmer Groups and Forest Village Community Institutions (LMDH) throughout West Java Province, Tuesday (30/1) .

This event, which is a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Defense, was held at the Central Government Field of Sumedang Regency, West Java. Around 60,000 invitations attended, including from Farmers, Breeders, Forest Village Community Institutions (LMDH), Fertilizer Retailers, Babinsa, Bhabinkamtibmas, and Agricultural Extension Officers.

Minister of Defense Prabowo said that national security depends on food defense. Food security depends on farmers, workers and fishermen.

“I am very grateful to the Minister of Agriculture and the Agricultural Extension Officers. I appreciate that your mission is very noble. "Moreover, assisted by Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas as the driving force in national food security," said Minister of Defense Prabowo.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture in his speech said that Sumedang was the first region to develop a participatory food estate supervised by universities in Thematic KKN activities. For the first stage, this participatory food estate was implemented in 26 villages, namely 1 village 1 hectare. To support this program, the Ministry of Agriculture will pay more attention to Sumedang in advancing the agricultural sector.

"We allocated Rp. 23 billion for agricultural assistance to Sumedang, including fertilizer, livestock and other agricultural facilities," explained Andi.

On the other hand, Acting Regent of Sumedang Herman Suryatman stated that this activity is an opportunity for the development of the agricultural sector in Sumedang Regency which is also expected to have a positive impact on the economic and tourism sectors.

“This is purely for the country and for the interests of Sumedang. Hopefully this will be a great opportunity for all parties to be able to advance the region. This is a magic moment. Sumedang farmers gain motivation, inspiration and are provided with stimulus. And this is for the people," said Acting. Regent.

Herman said, this activity is a valuable provision for the Sumedang Regency Government in accelerating Sumedang's development over the next year, especially in the context of strengthening food security independence to anticipate El Nino.

"We don't know what El Nino and climate change will be like, what is clear is that we are preparing (anticipating) the worst scenario. "We must have independent food security," he concluded.

This series of activities was also filled with Technical Guidance (Bimtek) activities for farmers, livestock breeders, LMDH and Agricultural Extension Officers, as well as socialization on the redemption of subsidized fertilizer.
